According to The Pulse Of Radio, fans can pre-order the new book "Runnin' With The Devil: A Backstage Pass To The Wild Times, Loud Rock, And The Down And Dirty Truth Behind The Making Of Van Halen". The new tome by the band's early manager Noel Monk, is available in autographed editions via VanHalenStore.com.
The press release for the book states: "Lifting back the curtain on one of the great untold stories of rock music, Monk details the most outrageous escapades from his time as confidant, fixer, and promoter — from hotel room destruction to outrageous backstage behavior to Eddie Van Halen's high-profile marriage to Valerie Bertinelli to the incredible drug use and drinking that would ultimately fuel the conflict between the band members… Monk also sheds light on a breakup long shrouded in rumor and animosity, telling the story of David Lee Roth's departure as he saw it and explaining how a band at the height of their powers found themselves struggling in vain to hold it all together."
"Runnin' With The Devil: A Backstage Pass To The Wild Times, Loud Rock, And The Down And Dirty Truth Behind The Making Of Van Halen" will be released on June 13 via Dey Street Books (formerly It Books), an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers.
Greg Renoff, author of the recently acclaimed VAN HALEN biography "Van Halen Rising: How A Southern California Backyard Party Band Saved Heavy Metal", explained that what David Lee Roth lacked in vocal prowess was covered by his passion and total dedication to delivering onstage. "One of the people I talked to was the bass player in RED BALL JET — that was the band Dave formed after the VAN HALEN brothers turned him down the first time. He said from the first time he saw Dave — so this is even before RED BALL JET — he said he saw him play in a park, on the same bill. These are like high school kids, everybody else is kinda swaying to the music while they play — y'know, Dave goes out there, he's got, like the Mick Jagger rooster tail going out of the back of his jeans and he's, like, y'know, grinding and doing these things and everybody's, like 'We were just having lunch with you in the cafeteria six hours ago — what are you doing, man?!' Like, y'know? But that was who he was. He was entrainment first all the time from the get-go. No. It's about the show. It's about being an entertainer."
The final show of VAN HALEN's most recent U.S. tour took place on October 4, 2015 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California.
The trek was VAN HALEN's first since an aborted North American run three years earlier in support of its then-new studio album, "A Different Kind Of Truth".
Released in 2015 was "Tokyo Dome In Concert", VAN HALEN's first-ever live collection featuring singer David Lee Roth, despite numerous pro-shot concerts from the band's original heyday being heavily booted for years.
