Canada's thrash metal machine Wreck-Defy, featuring guitarist Matt Hanchuck alongside former Archetype singer Greg "Wags" Wagner, former Testament bass player Greg Christian and drummer Dave O'Neal, have released a lyric video for their new single, "I'd Share Your Grave".
The track is is featured on the new album, The World Enslaved, available at all digital retailers and providers. Watch the video here.
The creative powerhouse Matt Hanchuck is the driving force behind Canadian Thrash-Metal-machine Wreck-Defy. The band focuses around the go-getting guitarist who just delivered "Powers That Be" one of the best Thrash-Metal albums in November 2020. In the meantime, Matt recorded a 4-track EP with cover versions of some Canadian bands with Henning Basse (Ex-Metalium, Ex- Firewind), Stu Block (Ex-Iced Earth) and Geoff Thorpe (Vicious Rumors), who are prominent artists from the metal scene and they worked hand in hand on the project. Now, with "The World Enslaved", the next steam hammer is already to be delivered. But Wreck-Defy are by no means knocking softly at your door and it’s more a tearing down your damn front door into pieces.
In addition to mastermind Matt Hanchuck and ex-Testament bass player Greg Christian, there are two new musicians in the line-up. Extraordinaire studio drummer David Allen now provides the power at the drums. The departure of ex-Annihilator singer Aaron Randall has been more than adequately replaced by Greg "Wags" Wagner (Ex-Archetype, Ex-Shatter Messiah). With him on the mic, Wreck-Defy’s sound is even more flexible and the bridge to power metal is further extended.
About the genesis to "The World Enslaved" Matt states: "The songs for "The World Enslaved" came together very quickly. I had a lot of riffs left over from the last batch of songs from the "Powers That Be" record and quite honestly, with the way that the world was everything shut down, unable to play, unable to travel for the longest time. I just immersed myself in writing and got knee deep into the process of creating the fourth Wreck-Defy-album. The lyrics for the new album were steeped in reality. For the most part there are some fantasy derived components but for the most part given the state of the world. The government corruption, the tyranny, the lies, the falsehoods and the greed. There was no shortage of topics for me to write about. The songs were written, arranged and recorded probably over about a three month period."
"The World Enslaved" was done in several locations. The guitar tracks were recorded in Sault Ste. Marie Ontario Canada and Thunder Bay ON, the drum tracks were recorded at Trident Studio in Pacheco California, as were the bass tracks done there by Greg Christian. Greg "Wags" Wagner’s vocals were recorded in Ohio/USA. Guest musician Justin Steer did some of the bass tracks and recorded them in Winnipeg MB. The mix and edition for "The World Enslaved" was done at Trident Studios in Pacheco California.
The fantastic artwork was once again designed by Ari Arianthi of Hand Rot Art, who already did a great job for "Powers That Be".
