After months of saying goodbye and regrouping, Ruhrpott thrash metal legends Darkness are setting the course for their future. Michael Braun is taking over bass duties effective immediately and will accompany the band on its musical journey moving forward.
This move follows the unexpected death of long-time bassist Ben, a loss that deeply shook the band and their inner circle. From the start, Darkness was determined that this position could only be filled with the utmost respect for Ben’s legacy.
In Michael Braun, they have chosen a musician who not only possesses decades of stage experience but also shares a personal connection with the band and Ben. The 51-year-old music teacher—married and a father of two—has been the bassist for the thrash metal band Witchtower for over twenty years and enjoys an excellent reputation in the regional metal scene.
The personal connection was also a decisive factor in the decision. Michael comes from the band's immediate circle; he knew Ben personally and held him in high regard as both a musician and a person. This foundation of trust, mutual respect, and shared values made him the ideal choice for Darkness.
"No one can replace Ben," the band emphasizes. "His place in our hearts and in the history of Darkness will remain forever unique. Michael isn't stepping into Ben's shoes; instead, he brings his own personality and musical signature—always mindful of the legacy he is helping to carry forward."
A new chapter begins for Darkness with Michael Braun. The band looks to the future with confidence and is excited to write new songs together, return to the stage, and continue on their chosen path.
The members of Darkness extend a warm welcome to Michael and look forward to writing this new chapter together with their fans.
Join us in welcoming Michael!
