CM Botteri returns with his second solo album, Twilight of the Centuries, following his debut Katamenia: Russian Lullaby. Known for his work as bassist in In the Woods… and Green Carnation, as well as his involvement in newer acts like Nattehimmel and Strange New Dawn, Botteri continues to expand his artistic vision with this release.

The first single and video, Sympathy for the Children Cry, sets the emotional tone for the album. The track addresses the harsh reality of troubled childhoods, highlighting a global issue that remains deeply relevant, why so many children continue to suffer. The album as a whole carries a conceptual thread centered on the idea of a better, more compassionate world.

Musically, Twilight of the Centuries blends symphonic and atmospheric elements with a progressive edge. Rich arrangements featuring strings, cello, and saxophone create a layered and immersive soundscape. Tracks like Every Joshua You Take explore themes of religion and human suffering, adding further depth to the album’s narrative.

The lineup includes CM Botteri on lead vocals and bass, XBotteri on guitar and keyboards, and Sven Rothe on drums. The music was primarily written by CM Botteri and XBotteri, who also collaborated on the lyrics.

Stylistically, the album leans into avant-garde territory, drawing inspiration from bands such as Katatonia, Anathema, and My Dying Bride. Visually, the video aesthetic is influenced by King Diamond and Arcturus, particularly in its use of theatrical elements like masks and hats, both key inspirations behind the album’s identity.
