Greece’s premier Dio tribute band, Rock ‘N’ Roll Children – Yiannis Papanikolaou (vocals), Manolis Tsigkos (guitar), John Luna Tsimas (bass), Nikos Anastasiadis (drums) and George Georgiou (keyboards) – is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the 1986 Hear ‘N Aid charity project “Stars” and recruited 50+ Greek singers, as well as Harry “The Tyrant” Conklin, and guitarists who recorded a cover of the classic anthem for charity.

They also filmed a video shot at the same style as the original with all the musicians during the recordings of the songs, as well as the huge choir with 50 members laying down their vocal tracks at the prestigious Sierra Studios in Athens.

All proceedings of this effort will go to Christodoulion Orphanage in Athens, Greece. If you would like to contribute to the cause you can find the details and bank accounts at the end of the video.

Most notable contributions come from the aforementioned Harry “The Tyrant” Conklin (Jag Panzer, Titan Force, Satan’s Host, The 3 Tremors, Cloven Hoof), as well as guitar legend Elias Logginidis from Greek heavy metal pioneers Spitfire, world famous guitarist Gus Drax (Sunburst, solo), guitarist Alex Flouros (Amongruins, Diviner, Sl. Theory), as well as singers Vasilis Axiotis (Persona Non Grata, ex-Phantom Lord), George Eikosipentakis (InnerWish), Tassos Krokodeilos (Spitfire, Marauder), and Jon Voyager (Need).

The project started after Ronnie James Dio died on May 16, 2010, when InnerWish guitarist Manolis Tsigkos had the idea of making a tribute band and play a show once a year close to the singer’s anniversary of passing. The band was formed with Yiannis Papanikolaou on vocals, John Luna Tsimas on bass, Nikos Anastasiadis on drums and George Georgiou.

Even since their formation, the band – which is called Rock ’N’ Roll Children – plays shows in Greece’s major cities for charity, which are usually sold out. Most notably, every May there is a show at the legendary Kyttaro Club which features several Greek and international musicians as special guests on vocals, guitars, etc. This year, Hardline and Alex Rudi Pell vocalist, Johnny Gioeli will be performing with the band on Saturday, May 16.
