Remmel is known as the vocalist and guitarist of the Finnish newgrass band Steve'n'Seagulls. Now he is also the songwriter and the frontman of Remmel & Rattlesnakes.
Remmel & Rattlesnakes is a Finnish band and a music collective formed by Steve'n'Seagulls vocalist and guitarist Tomi Tajakka also known as Remmel. It all started in 2025. Remmel had a bunch of songs he wanted to release. He asked producer, musician and a recording engineer Jarkko Viinamäki to join and Remmel & Rattlesnakes was born. After two singles - Traveling Rodeo (February 2026) and Days And Times (March 2026) - the debut EP Little Western Songs From The North is released today on the 24th of April.
What started as a solo project soon turned into a music collective as Remmel asked some of his friends to join the gang. Esa Starck (drums) and Jarkko Viinamäki (bass, keys and guitar) formed the core with Remmel (guitar, vocals, mandolin, keys). The Additional musicians on the debut EP are Antti Vuorenmaa (pedal steel guitar) on two tracks and Tomi Riipinen (guitar solo) on one.
"I was fascinated with the idea that we could have different musicians on the tracks. Kind of whatever the song would need to have. Probably the best thing with this music collective is that we've all known each other for a long time. Recording music with friends is what it's all about," Remmel tells about the birth of the EP and continues:
"For me music is and always will be a thing of passion. I love to listen to albums, read books about music and go see bands. I hope my passion for different types of music can be heard on Remmel & Rattlesnakes songs. At least I feel there are flavours of Neil Young there - my all time favourite."
Touring around the world with Steve'n'Seagulls has given Remmel a lot of fuel and ideas for different kinds of songs. Some were born a while ago and some came together quite close to the recording sessions. Even though the EP has just came out, Remmel and Viinamäki have already been in the studio to record new songs. Somewhat different music this time. So the story of Remmel & Rattlesnakes goes on.
"And without borders or genre limitations. That's one thing I truly love with this collective. We can do all types of stuff and just focus on the main thing - making music. Steve’n’Seagulls is the main thing for me but Remmel & Rattlesnakes will remain as my other output for the music," Remmel describes the future plans for the collective.
