Paradise Lost to release the 35th anniversary edition of their album “Gothic”

On May 15, Peaceville will release a 35th anniversary version of British goth metal band Paradise Lost‘s 1991 sophomore album “Gothic”, as per theprp. Jaime Gomez Arellano (Ghost, Insomnium) has remastered the record for this reissue, which will be physically released on CD and vinyl. The CD version will come with an extra vintage live set that was recorded in Ludwigsburg, Germany in 1991.

This new edition of ‘Gothic’, marking the album’s 35th anniversary, is presented on double CD, with remastered audio courtesy of Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios. The bonus disc features the band ‘Live in Ludwigsburg’, 1991, performing tracks from ‘Gothic’ & their debut album. The release also includes a four page booklet containing recollections from the band on the period & the shaping of the album, as originally featured in 2021’s ‘The Lost & The Painless’.

The British gothic metal group called Paradise Lost was founded in 1988 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and are credited with helping to establish the death-doom genre and serving as the primary inspiration for the later gothic metal movement. More than two million Paradise Lost records had been sold globally as of 2005.
Before signing with Peaceville Records in 1989, Paradise Lost issued three cassette demos following their creation in 1988: “Paradise Lost”, “Frozen Illusion”, and “Plains of Desolation”. In December of same year, they recorded “Lost Paradise”, their debut album, at Academy Music Studio. February 1990 saw the release of the album. Paradise Lost went back to the Academy Music Studio in November 1990 to record “Gothic”, their second album, which came out in March 1991. With the addition of keyboards and female vocal accompaniments, the band started to depart from the death/doom sound of their earlier recordings.
