Astarte is the first all-female black metal band worldwide. Hailing from Athens, Greece, the band was formed in 1995 under their first name Lloth, with members Tristessa, Kinthia, Nemesis. Soon after the demo record “Dancing In The Dark Lakes Of Evil”, which was re-released on cd few years ago-as Lloth, they renamed the band to Astarte and released five memorable studio albums.
Since “Demonized”, Astarte prepared a next album – “Backdemonium”, but unfortunately decided to split up in 2014 after the death of founding member Maria Kolokouri (Tristessa) due to complications from leukemia. “Blackdemonium” is the final opus of ASTARTE. After all these years of silence, Tristessa’s husband and Astarte’s member Nicolas Maiis (Melanomorfos) managed to finalize the production of “Blackdemonium” and gift it to the world. The mix and masterings were done by Steve Lado and the album front cover made by All Things Rotten.
This time Astarte deliver more aggressive black/death metal with more extreme tunes and guitar riffs. Tristessa’s voice is more aggressive than ever and along with Nicolas Maiis they split a lot of parts of the new album in vocal lines, creating a unique combination. The compositions and lyrics are all written by TRISTESSA and Nick Maiis. It is not the usual Astarte style. Nicolas said that in this record they wanted something different than the previous Astarte albums.
“We wanted more old school/sharp sound with shorter songs in duration. We wanted to be more in your face and I think we manage to do it 100%. Tristessa will be sing one more time to this last Astarte opus”, states Nicolas.
