Das Ich returns with ‘Lazarus’ – first new single in 17 years

German darkwave pioneers Das Ich have released “Lazarus“, their first new material in over a decade. The single, out now is part of a 3-track single coming out on August 15. It arrives ahead of their upcoming album “Fanal”, which will be released on October 31.
Described by the band as a “pulsating work between electronic cacophony and classical chamber orchestra,” “Lazarus” will see three different version on the upcoming 3-track single: the single version, the Himmelfahrt version and the Erweckung remix. This is what the band says about the track: “In the darkest perversion, the resurrected becomes the herald of death. ‘Blessed are those who renounce God’ — God himself commands the turning away from Him.”
“Fanal” will be Das Ich’s first full album in 15 years. While further details remain under wraps, the single “Lazarus” offers a preview of what fans can expect: dense orchestration, religious provocation, and theatrical intensity. Das Ich in other words.
Das Ich was founded in 1989 by Stefan Ackermann and Bruno Kramm in Bayreuth, Germany. Known for their orchestral industrial sound and theatrical live performances, the duo became one of the defining acts of Neue Deutsche Todeskunst (New German Death Art) in the early 1990s. Their debut album “Die Propheten” (1991) was released through Danse Macabre, the label co-founded by Kramm.
Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Das Ich released several well-received albums, including “Staub” (1994), “Egodram” (1998), and “Antichrist” (2002), often combining electronic aggression with philosophical and religious themes. They also toured extensively in Europe and the U.S.
After a period of reduced activity following Ackermann’s serious health issues in the 2010s, the band gradually re-emerged, now culminating in the announcement of “Fanal” and the release of “Lazarus” in 2025.
