The Munich Eye is reporting that in a recent development, the Mayor of Frankenthal, Rhineland-Palatinate, Nicolas Meyer, has accepted a penalty imposed by the supervisory authority for using his official vehicle to attend an AC/DC concert. This incident, which occurred in July 2024, has resulted in a fine following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the mayor’s actions.
The supervisory authority concluded that Meyer committed minor official violations, which warranted a fine of EUR400. This decision comes nearly a year after the mayor’s ride to the concert, which was held at Hockenheimring. In a public statement, Meyer acknowledged the findings and expressed his commitment to the responsibilities of his office.
Meyer has issued an apology to the residents for his actions, emphasizing the importance of transparency and accountability in public service. He stated that the disciplinary proceedings have been a significant part of his tenure as mayor, and he recognizes the challenges that accompany public scrutiny. The mayor articulated his belief that public discussions are vital to a healthy democracy, despite the difficulties presented by the situation.
This incident came to light following an anonymous complaint that raised concerns about the use of public resources for personal entertainment. Meyer initially defended his decision by citing subsequent official obligations he had following the concert. However, he later admitted that the event extended beyond the expected duration, preventing him from fulfilling those commitments.
AC/DC recently added three new dates to their Australian tour; November 16 in Melbourne, November 25 in Sydney, and December 18 in Brisbane.
