European progressive/hard rock band, Headless, release the second single from their forthcoming album. Today, check out “I Thought I Knew It All” on all digital platforms, or watch the animated video here.

“I Thought I Knew It All” may sound familiar to some of you as it’s a track from Megadeth’s 1994 Youthansia album. But in Headless fashion, the group has continued their tradition of taking deep cuts and putting their own spin on them as evidenced by last album’s AC/DC cover “Two’s Up”.

“I Thought I Knew It All” includes a guest appearance from guitarist Andy Martongelli (Power Quest, Arthemis) and who also plays with Headless guitarist Walter Cianciusi in former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson’s band.

“Having my bandmate in Ellefson – Andy Martongelli – on lead guitar gives a profound significance to this track. It’s a heartfelt tribute to our shared mentor David Ellefson, who wrote this tune along with Mustaine, Friedman & Menza back in the Youthanasia days. At the same time the song offers a glimpse into the heaviness and performance to be expected from Headless in the near future,” explains Walter Cianciusi.

“It’s an obscure song which Megadeth never played live, but I grew up binge listening to this one. It is likely my all-time favorite from the Vic camp. And the lyrics seem to delve into the recent, rather shocking events that have transpired for Headless. People close to the band have proven to be the opposite of what I believed…so ‘I Thought I Knew It All’ became a commentary to my inner feelings, a caption upon a lost friendship.”

The video, created by Dime Stamenov (www.instagoodpromotion.com), pays homage and inspired by the original Hugh Syme (Rush, Queensryche) art from Youthanasia.

Following “Weightless”, this is the second song from Headless’ new album, Transitional Objects, being released August 29. Pre-order available now for the jewelcase CD and limited-edition (300) grimace purple colored vinyl here.

Transitional Objects offers something for fans of traditional hard rock, AOR or progressive rock/metal showcasing Headless’ signature sound, characterized by intricate guitar work, dynamic rhythms, and melodic vocals. Key about Headless is the amazingly melodic and infectious vocal harmonies of Swedish singer Göran Edman whose experience since the ‘80s fronting numerous recordings from names like Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum, Vinnie Vincent, as well as the groups Madison, Swedish Erotica, Glory, Karmakanic and more. Appreciated and loved by those in the know, and underrated by everyone else it’s great to hear Göran return to the group for the new album.

Transitional Objects tracklisting:

“Weightless”
“Losing Power”
“Fall To Pieces”
“Misery”
“Still My Thrill”
“Refugee”
“No One’s Waiting”
“I Thought I Knew It All” (Feat. Andy Martongelli)

Headless was initially founded in 1996 by cousins Walter (guitars) and Enrico Cianciusi (drums). The original incarnation of the band self-released the 1996 EP Future to Past and the 1998 full-length Inside You before disbanding in 2000. Walter revived the name in 2011 with an entirely new lineup, centering their new music around catchy rock choruses, progressive metal technicality and Edman’s powerful vocals. That formula – aided by drummer Scott Rockenfield (Queensryche) – formed the basis of their 2013 comeback record Growing Apart (Lion Music). Enrico rejoined Headless in 2014 and subsequently contributed drumming duties on 2016’s Melt the Ice Away (Mighty Music), which also featured a guest appearance from guitarist Jim Matheos (Fates Warning). The band’s mastery of rock-solid AOR anthems was bolstered on M-Theory Audio debut in 2021 Square One with the addition of bassist Martin Helmantel, whose playing helped provide the backbone lending from his experience with Dutch rockers Elegy.

Headless has been a consistent live presence on European stages, performing alongside Geoff Tate, Fates Warning, Queensryche, Tygers of Pan Tang, Angra, Skid Row, Bonfire, D.A.D., Candlemass, The Dead Daisies and more.

Headless is:

Göran Edman – vocals
Walter Cianciusi – guitars
Martin Helmantel – bass guitar
Enrico Cianciusi – drums
