INSULT Featuring Former ONSLAUGHT Members Sign With Metal On Metal Records; Debut Album Details Revealed

Metal On Metal Records have inked a deal with Insult, the British thrash metal act featuring former Onslaught members.

The label stated: “We are thrilled to announce the signing of Insult, a not-so-new thrash metal band from Bristol, UK, featuring original Onslaught drummer Steve Grice and bassist Jase Stallard, who played on the band’s first two albums.

Every self-respecting metalhead should be familiar with the talent of these seminal British thrashers’ rhythm section and their classic albums Power From Hell – released 40 years ago! – and The Force. But where have the guitarists and the vocalist been hiding all these years? That is a mystery, as they surely have the chops to match, and they elevate the debut album of Insult to the next level. Well, at least the vocalist Jase Howell (formerly a roadie for Onslaught) was already singing in Insult back in the mid-1980s, as this is when the band was originally formed – even though, at that time, they only performed live covers songs. It wasn’t until their 2022 reunion that they began working on their own music.

Steve Grice first contacted us last year and sent several rehearsal and demo tracks over the months. They definitely sounded promising, but when we finally heard the finished album, there were no doubts left. This Bristol-based band’s brand of thrash metal is old school and infused with punk, and – unlike the pure punk demos of Onslaught – undeniably catchy. A couple of tracks instantly brought Kill ‘Em All-era Metallica to mind: the riffs and the energy are absolutely on par.”

The band commented: “Our initial reason for putting Insult together again came under very sad circumstances; we had no idea where the path was going to take us. Two years on, getting asked to join Metal On Metal Records is nothing short of incredible. We’re beyond excited and honoured to be part of such a killer, respected label, and we’re looking forward to an intense and successful ride together.”

In March, Insult released their first digital single “0-60, Death Or Glory” on most digital streaming platforms, so head on over to the one of your choice and check out this hard-hitting track. And to learn more about the band, visit the Insult page here.

The band’s debut album, Reside Infernus, is available from Metal On Metal Records on CD and Bandcamp since April 25, while for wider distribution, both physical and digital, it will be available from June 6 on.

Apart from seven original tracks, Reside Infernus features a re-recording of “Power From Hell” from Onslaught’s 1985 first full-length, with guest vocals by Sy Keeler – the longtime, now former frontman of these British thrash legends.

According to the label, “Insult deliver thrash metal with punk influences, bursting with energy, attitude and authenticity. Its old-school analogue recording create a fresh yet nostalgic feel. Expect gritty vocals, simple yet effective riffs and driving rhythms – this album is catchy as hell! Though they don’t copy any one band, you might detect echoes of early Onslaught, early Metallica and Meliah Rage, as well as Motörhead, Venom, Warfare and Tank, and even Discharge, G.B.H. or The Exploited on the punkier side.”

The band had this to say about their work on the album and approach: “In an era where music is increasingly shaped by the digital world, we decided to take a different path. Reside Infernus was produced without relying on the automated tools that many artists use today. Every riff, every lyric, every beat was crafted organically, driven by emotion, experience and a deep connection to the art of making music. The result is something that speaks with authenticity – an album that breathes and roars rather than merely exists as a by-product of technology. We hope you enjoy it.”

The band’s drummer, Steve Grice, prepared a music video for the title track, “Reside Infernus”, which you can watch here. Another track, “Berserker”, is also available for streaming here. A third song – the more punk-infused “0-60, Death Or Glory”, can be heard at the Insult page here.

Insult’s Reside Infernus CD can be ordered directly from Metal On Metal Records’ website, while the digital download (in lossless formats) from the label’s Bandcamp page. Later on, from June 6, it will be distributed digitally and made available from iTunes, Amazon MP3, Google Music, Spotify and other retailers and services.

The cover art was designed by Alex Cooper.
