Death metal outfit Gruesome are set to return with their first new full-length in seven years, “Silent Echoes,” arriving June 06th through Relapse Records. To mark the occasion, the band have premiered a music video for the lead single “A Darkened Window,” directed by The C.O.I.N.
“Silent Echoes” stands as a tribute to the late Sean Reinert, renowned for his drumming with Death and Cynic. Reinert had initially been slated to produce the album, having served as a close friend and mentor to Gruesome drummer Gus Rios.
In homage to his legacy, the band used the very snare drum Reinert played on Cynic’s seminal album “Focus” during the recording sessions. Those sessions were once again helmed by longtime collaborator Jarrett Pritchard.
The group shared the following thoughts on the track and what it represents for this next era: “‘A Darkened Window‘ was the perfect song to pair with the visuals of The C.O.I.N., who captured the existential despair of lyrics perfectly – a vision of modern existence where every human emotion can be commoditized and therefore must be groomed, filtered and corrected into something synthetic and horrifying.”
“Silent Echoes” serves as a tribute to the works of the late Sean Reinert, who was known for his time behind the drum kit for Death and Cynic. Reinert was originally intended to produce this album, having been a longtime friend and mentor of Gruesome drummer Gus Rios.
As such, the snare drum that Reinert used on Cynic‘s “Focus” was used during the recording sessions for this album, which was once again overseen by Jarrett Pritchard.
