Long-running New York City doom metal quintet GREY SKIES FALLEN has just released a two-song EP, Fate 25, celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary of their debut album, The Fate Of Angels.
To celebrate this milestone, GREY SKIES FALLEN decided to go back and re-record a couple of their favorites from The Fate Of Angels. Having lost the original master tapes, the band was unable to improve the sound of the original album, so they simply re-recorded two tracks with their current lineup and contemporary sound.
The two re-recorded tracks, “The Purest Form (MMXXIV)” and “Athena (MMXXIV),” see GREY SKIES FALLEN guitarist/vocalist Rick Habeeb (Buckshot Facelift, Reeking Aura), guitarist Joe D’angelo (Umbersound), bassist Tom Anderer (Buckshot Facelift, Reeking Aura, ex-Artificial Brain), and drummer Sal Gregory (Buckshot Facelift) rejoined by their original keyboard player, Craig Rossi. The songs were recorded/co-produced by Keith Moore, mixed and mastered by legendary Swedish producer Dan Swanö (Opeth, Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath), and completed with cover art by Travis Smith (Opeth, Death, Katatonia).
Rick Habeeb writes, “A few years back we realized the master tapes for our first album were lost forever, so the thought of redoing some of those songs to freshen them up a bit could be a good course of action. We wanted to do justice to the originals, and we feel we’ve accomplished that.”
GREY SKIES FALLEN’s Fate 25 is out today, streaming at Bandcamp HERE and YouTube HERE.
Fate 25 Track Listing:
1. The Purest Form (MMXXIV)
2. Athena (MMXXIV)
The tracks will be released on all other digital streaming services in the days ahead, and a limited physical version is being discussed for release early in the new year.
Fate 25 marks the second title from GREY SKIES FALLEN this year, following their critically acclaimed sixth LP, Molded By Broken Hands, which was released in March through Profound Lore Records. Molded By Broken Hands showcases the band’s most triumphant work yet, carrying that feeling of the underappreciated and underrated dark metal scene that was culminating in the US during the late 1990s, an era where the band grew from, while helping to signal a new resurgence of doomy dark metal artistry currently building. Through soaring, emotionally searing melodies, glorious epic harmonics, and with an overall conquering aura, Molded By Broken Hands will finally deliver the recognition GREY SKIES FALLEN is worthy of.
