Introducing the latest chapter of groovy and visceral death metal from Birmingham, England. AS THE WORLD DIES are driven by British riff machine Scott Fairfax (MEMORIAM) and have completed the recording of their second studio album.
With progressive, yet uncompromising compositions, a blend of technical sophistication and powerful sound, the new English flagship comes up with merciless heaviness. Old-school metal brutality paired with melodic atmosphere.
Today the band presents their first single ‘I Am The One’. The song comes from the band's second studio album and will be released as a digital single, but also strictly limited on vinyl as a 7inch split single, together with the brand new and very emotional MEMORIAM song ‘Endless Rain (a song for Jim)’.
On Friday 29 September 2023, Frank Healy's son James died suddenly in his sleep from a congenital heart defect at the age of just 32.
From that day on, it rained almost every day for the next three weeks. Scott was a good friend of James, and this news and the never-ending rain plunged Scott into a depression. He composed ‘Endless rain (a song for Jim)’ while thinking of his band mate and watching the rain at Riff Central. When Frank heard the song, he decided to play it at his son's funeral. He didn't need words, the music alone expressed the feelings. This music accompanied James on his final journey into the unknown. It is a lasting and loving tribute from Memoriam to a son, brother and friend who left us far too soon.
Mastermind Scott Fairfax comments: "I’m very excited for this release, kind of two sides with two very different meanings, The Memoriam side is a heartfelt emotional instrumental song I wrote while in a dark place when it didn’t stop raining for like 3 weeks! A song for Jim, which I didn’t plan on releasing, A emotional journey, also very chilled and thought provoking, The other side is As The World Dies first release on reaper which is amazing in itself, this is a very different beast, a epic and vast piece with the lyrical content being about a lone survivor of some sort of apocalypse, and his struggles looking for a way out of his nightmare, Both tracks produced and recorded by myself, and mastered by Anthony Wall."
