In an early Christmas surprise for fans, Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame band BON JOVI released a new original holiday song, "Christmas Isn't Christmas", on Island Records today. Recorded recently in Nashville, the song can be streamed in the lyric video here.
BON JOVI frontman Jon Bon Jovi said of the songwriting and recording: "'Hey Everybody, I wrote a song two years ago called Christmas Isn’t Christmas. It was a tough day in the house, my dad and my mom were both taken ill. And I wrote this as a gift to my parents and my children. The gift was Christmas bringing everyone together. And while we weren’t all together, we could only be there in our memories and in our thoughts and in our prayers. When we shot the video and we started conversing about it, we realised there’s also great, sunny side – Christmas Isn’t Christmas with you, unless you’re here with me. So we can lighten the mood too. I hope you like it as much as we do."
Bon Jovi superfans will know that this isn't the group's first seasonal song. The band released 'I Wish Everyday Could Be Like Christmas' as the B-side to 'Keep the Faith' way back in 1992. And of course, they released their cover of 'Please Come Home for Christmas', which became a UK top 10 hit in 1994.
BON JOVI's latest album, "2020", was released in October 2020 via Island Records. Once again co-produced by John Shanks and Jon Bon Jovi, the record features the entire touring band — keyboardist David Bryan, drummer Tico Torres, bassist Hugh McDonald, guitarist Phil X, percussionist Everett Bradley, and guitarist John Shanks.
