Former KIX bassist Donnie Purnell releases new album ‘Hooray’

Ex-KIX bassist and chief songwriter Donnie Purnell released a solo album titled Hooray back on July 1, 2023. Purnell handles the lead vocals and plays guitar, bass, harmonica and keyboards on Hooray. He is backed by Bob Halligan Jr. who also plays bass, guitar and keyboards on the record and Robbie Spagnoletti who handles the drums, congas and percussion.

Purnell was one of the founders of the band KIX (in 1976) and was the bassist in the band until it disbanded back in 1996. When the other KIX band members — frontman Steve Whiteman, guitarists Ronnie “10/10” Younkins and Brian “Damage” Forsythe, and drummer Jimmy “Chocolate” Chalfant decided to reunite as a band in 2003, they decided to do so without Purnell and went with bassist Mark Schenker instead.
